CELLULAR JAIL

The construction of Cellular Jail started in 1896 and completed in 1906. Spread as seven spokes of a bicycle wheel, this unique three-storied structure was the first of its kind in India as it had 693 cells specially built for solitary confinement of the prisoners. Extraordinary feature of the Jail was the total absence of communication between prisoners housed in different wings since the front of the row of cells faced the back of the other.

CHATAM SAW MILL

Earlier known as "Mark Island" this is a small island where Lt. Archibald Blair formed a colony during 1789 which was later shifted to North Andaman. After the First War of Independence of 1857, the British decided to establish a Penal Settlement on the island. The first batch of 200 freedom fighters of first war of Indian Independence of 1857 landed here on 10th March, 1858. Some persons who tried to escape from the island where hanged on recapture. Superintendent J.P. Walker executed 86 of those recaptured on a single day at a corner of the Island.

MUD VOLCANO

The only active Mud Volcano in India. This Volcano is nearer to Baratang Jetty of Andaman islands (middle Andaman). It takes atleast a day to visit this place and return to Port Blair. People have to travel through road in a Jarwan tribal reserve (forest area) and cross the sea at Baratang jetty. After crossing the sea people reach the Uttara Jetty . From Uttara Jetty this place is 20 minutes journey by road.

RADHA NAGAR BEACH

Radha Nagar beach is rated as a world class beach. Radhanagar Beach is a surreal experience. While walking on it one could hear the sound of waves gently splashing against the beach on left ear and on right ear one could hear bird song from the forest. Simply the best of both worlds. The clear, turquoise water also makes a beautiful just a position with the white, sandy beach.

ROSS & SMITH ISLANDS

Two wide, beautiful islands of Ross and Smith Islands joined by a sand bar is what makes this pair of islands unique. Water is crystal clear and gem green in color. Sun bathing in Ross & Smith Islands is a wonderful experience. During high tide, the sand bar disappears leaving a trail of water between the two islands and during low tide the sand bar appears again making the islands look majestic!

LALAJI BAY BEACH

Lalaji Bay beach is a beautiful, sandy beach on the west coast of Long Island. One has to take a boat from Rangat jetty to reach here. The boat ride is quite comfortable and takes around 1.5 hrs. The boat cruises through Mangrove creek thus providing equally scenic views around. The island has a long, sprawling white sandy beach with clear water. One can easily bask in the sun or get immersed in the clean water to give a treat to mind and body.

ELEPHANT BEACH

Elephant Beach is further north from Radhanagar and is popular with Indian tourists. The coral here is probably the best on the island , making this an excellent spot for snorkeling.
